“Cookie Sale Fundraiser for the Elderly”

Our school’s Community Youth Club (CYC)  has always been committed to encouraging students to take the initiative to help and care for others and lend a hand to those in need while being enthusiastic about social affairs. Over the past weekend, our True Light students participated in the “Cookie Sale Fundraiser for the Elderly,” using a small cookie to ignite hope and change the lives of the elderly.

The “Cookie Sale Fundraiser” raises funds for elderly services provided by the Haven of Hope Christian Elderly Service to further expand and support some elderly services not yet funded by the government. It also helps recruit necessary staff, and purchase medical equipment and rehabilitation aids to fill the gaps in government-subsidized services. The cookie sale fundraiser has been happening for over 20 years, benefiting countless elderly individuals. Our students’ good deeds support the elderly’s lives, improving the lives of many underprivileged seniors.

Student reflections on participation:

“On February 11, I attended a charity event organized by CYC. It was a meaningful event as the donations were used to help the elderly receive better medical services. At first, my friend and I felt shy and nervous about asking people for donations. We acted like the embarrassed character in Inside Out 2.

‘Are you doing charity work?’ a young woman asked. I responded with a shaky voice, ‘Yes, we are fundraising for Haven for Hope, and we are collecting donations by selling water bottles.’ The woman rested her hand on my shoulder with a big smile and put her donation into the donation box. I was shocked by her response.

There is a saying: ‘It is better to give than to receive.’ I felt a deep sense of satisfaction after the event as I was glad that my small act could help the elderly. The generosity of the young woman created a ripple effect, inspiring me to understand the importance of giving. Therefore, I am willing and determined to do more charity work in the near future!”

I just joined CYC this year, and this was my first time participating in a cookie charity sale. In addition to being very happy to help the elderly, I think I benefited a lot as well. I am quite shy myself, but after this charity sale, I became bolder. In the second half of the event, my voice became louder and I was more active when trying to attract people to buy the cookies. Eventually, with the help of my schoolmates, many people donated money to us, which helped the Haven for Hope Hospital. I feel very satisfied after the event.
